Annual Meet with GCMC Alumni in Skopje 2024

On 18th of September, the Marshall Center had the pleasure of reconnecting with over 30 alumni in Skopje, North Macedonia. It was an opportunity to reunite with our local alumni and reflect on the strong bonds forged through the German-American partnership that drives the Marshall Center’s mission.

German Ambassador Petra Drexler, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Nicole Varnes, and Marshall Center Director, retired Maj. Gen. Barre Seguin, all shared warm welcomes, highlighting the importance of this continued collaboration.

One of the highlights of the event was a presentation by Dr. Ivica Simonovski, a #GCMC alumni scholar from North Macedonia, who talked about how terrorist groups and criminal organizations are using emerging technologies to their advantage.

Fromcryptocurrency to FinTech, these organizations are constantly evolving, using innovative methods to move money undetected by law enforcement. It was a good reminder of the challenges we face in the modern security landscape.

At the Marshall Center, we believe our greatest outcome is the trusted global network we’ve built through our alumni. These security professionals are the heart of our mission, leading the charge in promoting peace, stability, and cooperation across the globe.

In closing, North Macedonia Alumni Association President Biljana Popovska shared the outcomes of the Ohrid Regional Alumni Security Forum. She emphasized the region’s vision for deeper Euro-Atlantic integration, underlining the commitment to shared values and security cooperation

Their dedication and expertise continue to shape a safer future for us all
